they keep coming up with new kinds of links! I haven't actually looked into what ringlink is very closely; when I scanned the thread about it, it sounded like it was pretty similar to energylink. So I wonder what's up with that.

some non-sonic games support ringlink too, like risk of rain 2013/returns with gold, i think smw with coins, and i guess sf64 now??

is there something that makes it meaningfully different from energylink though? I thought the idea behind that was just to allow you to convert between [some quantity of thing] in one game to [equivalent quantity of different thing] in another game. (note: i haven't played a game with either energylink or ringlink though so I have no idea what I'm talking about)

@hatkirby energylink is a pool you withdraw from. so in Mega Man 2 with energylink on, when you pick up drops they just get thrown into the energylink pool, and games that support energylink can withdraw from it. you can withdraw from it to get health, ammo, lives.
ringlink is not a pool, it is live. if i hit a ten ring capsule in SADX, you immediately also get ten rings in Shadow the Hedgehog.
